WAEC UPDATE ON THE RELEASE OF 2020 MAY/JUNE SSCE RESULTS

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released an update concerning when the 2020 May/June SSCE results will be released.

According to West African Examination Council (WAEC), the council earlier intended to release the 2020 May/June WAEC result this week. However, due to the nationwide protest and the curfew that followed in the various parts of the country, the release date has been extended to next week.

This means that the 2020 May/June SSCE results will now be released any time between 2nd November to 9th November, 2020.

The announcement reads, “WASSCE SC 2020 Results Release Date: Dear candidates, the Council had planned to release the results today in fulfillment of our Project 45 but due to the curfew imposed last week, it had to be postponed till next week. The exact date will be made known soon.”

JAMB Considers New Commencement Date on 2020 Admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, is considering a new date for the commencement of the 2020 admissions processes from the earlier announced date of 22nd August, 2020.

Accordingly, the Board will be meeting all the tertiary institutions on Monday, 10th August, 2020, to brainstorm on the possibility of shifting the commencement of admissions to a date that would better accommodate the vagaries of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

JAMB, in its weekly news bulletin, released Sunday evening, through its Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said:”As a responsive organization whose mantra is equity and fairness, the Board desires that every aspiring candidate who had taken its UTME be given equivalent opportunity to compete with his/her peers for the available openings.”

“This is the reason for its call for another meeting with all the institutions with a view to amending the earlier and mutually-agreed date for the conduct of Post-UTME screening and other processes,” the bulletin read.

It read further: “As intellectuals, it is incumbent on the Board and the various tertiary institutions to always provide practical solutions to perceived challenges for the smooth running of the sector without being prompted by the government. Such solutions, when arrived at, would then be forwarded to the relevant Ministries or Agencies for further inputs and necessary approvals.

It is in view of this that the Board is working to pre-empt any unpalatable situation that may arise if institutions conduct their admissions without accommodating the vast number of candidates that are  about to take their O’level examinations.

“Consequently, the Board would, at the meeting, be looking at the possibility of ensuring that the various institutions either delay or prolong their screening exercises to accommodate candidates who will be taking the 2020 O’level Examinations to be conducted by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, etc.

The public will recall that owing to the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 Pandemic, candidates who had sat the Board’s UTME under the Awaiting Results stipulation, were unable to take the Senior School Certificate Examinations conducted by the  West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business  and  Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) etc., as scheduled.

It would also be recalled that owing to the further relaxation of the COVID-19-inspired restrictions by the Federal Government, the West African Examination Council has fixed the commencement of its examinations from 17th August, 2020, and end them on 12th September, 2020; National Business and Technical Education Board would conduct its series of examinations from 21st September, 2020, to 15th October, 2020, while the National Examinations Council would commence its own examination from 5th October and end same on 17th November, 2020.

Federal Government Announces Resumption and New 2020 WAEC Date

The Federal Government has announced resumption date and a new date for the conduct of the 2020 WAEC examination in all the Secondary schools in the country. This was contained in a declaration by the Director of Press and Information of the ministry, Bem Goong.

According to him, this was part of the unanimous decisions reached at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Honourable Commissioners of Education of the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), the proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executives of examination bodies.

The declaration stated that resumption date for Secondary School students participating in the 2020 WAEC examination in the country is August 4th, 2020 while the new date for the 2020 WAEC exam is now August 17th, 2020.

This means that students have two weeks within which to prepare for the West African Examinations (WAEC) which will now commence 17th August 2020.

The meeting also determined that a passionate demand be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and public-spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country to enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening, as agreed.

The statement also stated that a meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education and Chief Executives of examination bodies namely, NECO, NABTEB and NBAISwill hold to harmonize their examination dates, which will be conveyed to stakeholders expeditiously by the Federal Ministry of Education.

JAMB ANNOUNCES DATE ADMISSION WILL BEGIN FOR 2020 CANDIDATES

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sent the guidelines institutions are to follow for the conduct of the 2020/2021 admission process to the various heads of the institutions. This was disclosed by the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede.

He advised heads of institutions not to go against the decisions and guidelines given by JAMB during the 2020 Policy meeting that was held on June 16th, 2020.

According to JAMB, admission will commence August 21st, 2020. He, however, stated that this year’s deadline will be determined by the Federal Ministry of Education and communicated to all the institutions as the uncertainties of the pandemic have made it impossible to fix a specific deadline at this time.

This means schools and JAMB will start giving qualified candidates who have passed through the screening process of their different schools of choice admission from August 21st, 2020.

JAMB boss stated that the admission-exercise for the 2020/2021 Academic Session would be conducted on the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) as it has been for the last three years.

The board warned schools against giving any candidates an illegal admission. institutions are therefore reminded institutions and the public that all forms of illegal and irregular admission have stopped as all admission into Full Time, Distance Learning, Part-Time, Sandwich, must be processed only through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB tasked the three higher education regulatory bodies – The National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE ) – to collaborate with it to ensure full compliance with the guidelines.

Npower Batch C

New enrolment for N-Power Programme begins June 26

The enrolment exercise for a new group (Batch C) of N-Power beneficiaries is to begin on , the Federal Government announced on Friday.

It said the online portal for the programme would be open for applications from noon on June 26, adding that all applicants must supply their Bank Verification Numbers for transparency.

The N-Power Programme was inaugurated by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), in 2016 under the National Social Investment Programme.

The aim of the programme was to lift citizens out of poverty through capacity building, investment and direct support.

In his Democracy Day broadcast on June 12, the President commended the programme, noting that the government’s social investment programme had continued to be a model to other nations.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development said the commencement of the Batch C enrolment was sequel to consultations.

It said on Friday that the move was following a review of the submissions on the reform and realignment of the programme for greater efficiency.

“Batch C is also being enrolled to provide opportunities for more youths to access the programme in furtherance of the President’s vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by creating opportunities to enhance the productivity of youths for entrepreneurship,” the ministry said in a statement issued in Abuja.

The ministry stated that in view of these, Batch A beneficiaries of the scheme would exit on June 30, 2020, while those in Batch B would exit the programme on July 31, 2020. It said past beneficiaries were not eligible to participate in Batch C.

Commenting on the development, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, said, “We have commenced the transitioning of beneficiaries from Batches A and B into government entrepreneurship schemes.

“We are also engaging private sector bodies to absorb some of the beneficiaries after the completion of psychometric assessment to determine competency and placement into various opportunities.”

 The Federal Government is also committed to the continuation and expansion and as such will now begin enrolment and on-boarding of a new batch of beneficiaries.

Skills acquisition for entrepreneurship and job creation are critical for an economy that will require a boost post COVID-19 and we are gearing up proactively for the challenge.”

The ministry said applications would be conducted using a hybrid system of enrolment to ensure that all Nigerians were given an opportunity to participate.

“As a ministry that caters for the vulnerable, we will also make special considerations for persons living with disabilities,” it stated.

Yaba College Of Technology (YABATECH) Admission Requirement.

All applicants seeking admission into YABATECH must possess the list requirement below

  • Applicant must at least 16 year of age
  • Applicant must at least possess a credit level passes in Five (5) subjects including English language and Mathematics and any other relevant subjects at the SSCE/GCE ‘O’ level/NECO or its equivalent.
  • Applicant must meet all Faculty and Departmental requirements.
  • Applicant must obtain an acceptable score at the compulsory University post UTME screening test.
